Following the success of The 146th Open at Royal Birkdale in 2017 when Jordan Spieth raised the Claret Jug as Champion Golfer of the Year – the tenth time which Royal Birkdale has hosted The Open, the first being in 1954 - the R&A confirmed its return in 2026. The Open, sometimes referred to as The British Open or The Open Championship, is the oldest of all four major championships in professional golf and shall be played July 12 - 19, 2026.
