Thursday, November 5

Golfers: This morning play at Royal Cape (tbc), the oldest golf club in Africa (1895) which has hosted the South African Open no less than ten times and the SA Amateur Championships eight times. The most recent SA Open held here was in 1996 and was won by Ernie Els. Essentially it is a very flat parkland course, it is always well maintained and a pleasure to play, with lovely views of the surrounding mountains. But don't be deceived by its apparent easiness. The fairways are narrow, demanding extreme accuracy off the tee, wayward shots can be heavily penalized amongst the trees and the greens are well bunkered, especially in the prominent South-Westerly wind, locally referred to as the Cape Doctor. (Caddies are included today)

Non-golfers: We depart from Cape Town's Victoria & Alfred Waterfront by ferry for a 25-minute trip across Table Bay to Robben Island. This World Heritage Site, and South Africa's most revered national monument, was once a prison housing Nelson Mandela.

After returning to the Waterfront, we across the Cape Flats, where the non-white inhabitants of District Six and other areas were placed, segregated by colour, religion and ethnicity. We then meet an inspiring resident, Vivian Zilo, who established the Iliso Care Society in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats in June 2005 with the objectives of fighting poverty, encouraging community empowerment, organising youth workshops and providing safety and care for orphans, vulnerable children and the elderly.

Dinner: At leisure in the Waterfront

Overnight: Cape Grace:
Table Mountain Luxury Room - including breakfast (8 Rooms, 16 passengers)

Friday, November 6

Golfers: Play today at Pearl Valley (tbc). Set in the famous Franschhoek Wine region, this new Jack Nicklaus Signature Course is a treat to play. Pearl Valley is probably in the top conditioned course in South Africa. As with many Nicklaus courses, water on the right with plenty of sand, will keep the golfers mind off the wide landing areas provided. Also a new development, the course and it's geographical location allow for guests to enjoy a day outing in the Winelands with high quality golf to compliment the food and wine.  (cart fee included today)

Non-golfers: Lunch in the Winelands and exploring the Gardens at Babylonstoren, Glassblowing at Fairview and the Language monument in Paarl. Walk the lovely streets of Franschhoek with its art galleries, cafes and other stores.

Dinner this evening is included in Franschhoek

Overnight: Le Quartier Francais:
Luxury Room - including breakfast (8 Rooms, 16 passengers)

Saturday, November 7

Sightseeing Inclusion: Depart the city for a scenic drive towards the Boland Mountains and Cape Wine Country. Here, explore some of its many historic wine estates with a first stop at a winery for a cellar tour and a chance to taste some of the exceptional wines of this world famous wine area.

Tour Highlights include: Cellar tour * Wine Tasting (at least 2 wineries) * Stellenbosch, town of oaks * Boschendal historic manor house * Franschhoek Valley * Paarl. A lunch stop will be made en route and is included in the cost.

Overnight: Le Quartier Francais:
Luxury Room - including breakfast (8 Rooms, 16 passengers)

Sunday, November 8

Depart Franschhoek this morning for George, this morning with golfers stopping in at Pinnacle Point for golf.
Non-golfers enjoy lunch at the Pinnacle Point before heading to Fancourt for afternoon spa treatments.

Today play Pinnacle Point (tbc). Magnificently perched atop staggering cliffs, this windswept course three hours east of Cape Town and a half hour south of George marks a major addition to South Africa’s already world-class golf scene. Six of the holes play across deep chasms to greens that seem to float in the Indian Ocean. The yawning ravines and distant horizons can make 150-yard shots look like twice that length. On the par-four eighth, tee and green sit on opposing bluffs; big hitters can attempt an all-or-nothing carry with the hope of having an easy wedge in, or play it safe by bailing out left and facing a much longer approach. Throughout the layout, the architects wisely designed large, fairly flat greens that yield plenty of sensible pin placements and give golfers who have run a gauntlet just to get to the green a bit of a break. (cart fee included)

Dinner: Included at Fancourt.

Overnight: Fancourt Hotel:
Luxury Room - including breakfast (8 Rooms, 16 passengers)

Monday, November 9

Today play Fancourt - The Montagu (tbc). Designed by Gary Player and remodeled in 2004 by David McKlay-Kidd (Bandon Dunes), the Montagu is South Africa's best parkland golf course. With the highest levels of conditioning and true championship layout, The Montagu at Fancourt sets the standards by which all other courses in South Africa are measured.
(Carts with a caddy per cart included. Suggested tip of $20 for the caddy)

Dinner included this evening: Serendipity (Wilderness) 20 minutes from Fancourt.
Come here for a five-course table d'hote menu with the most delicious South African-inspired cuisine, designed by awardwinning chef Lizelle Stolze. The menus change regularly but you have a choice (the soup and sorbet are a given). Think rosemary-crusted springbok loin on a samp and mushroom risotto and roasted brinjal and butternut roulade with a chunky seshebo. Wine Rudolf Stolze's cellar boasts the best available in South Africa and he regularly sources local wines to match the food. Serendipity is the definition of a hidden gem!

Overnight: Fancourt Hotel:
Luxury Room - including breakfast (8 Rooms, 16 passengers)

Tuesday, November 10

Sightseeing Today: Today tour the Klein Karoo region inland from George, taking in the town of Oudshoorn, the Ostrich farms, Cango Wildlife Ranch & the Cango Caves. 29km from Oudtshoorn, at the head of the picturesque Cango Valley, lies the spectacular underground wonder of the Klein Karoo - the Cango Caves. Situated in a limestone ridge parallel to the Swartberg Mountains, you will find the finest dripstone caverns in Africa, with vast halls and towering formations. Lost in absolute darkness, a deep stillness, a constant temperature and high humidity, it is a world with its own unique scenery of calcite masterpieces formed by gently dripping water. The tour includes a few natural chambers and takes one (standard) or one-and-a-half hours (adventure) to explore.

Golfers can elect to add a round at Fancourt today.

Dinner: At leisure

Overnight: Fancourt Hotel:
Luxury Room - including breakfast (8 Rooms, 16 passengers)

Wednesday, November 11

Today play Fancourt - The Links (tbc). Created from a previously flat piece of land, over 700 000 cubic metres of earth was moved in transforming it into a typical Links style. The course presents undulating windswept terrain and dune-style landscape and is the only such course in South Africa. Every hole has received detailed attention to ensure that the overall balance in terms of length, position of hazards and shot values are in harmony. As a result, The Links presents a stern test in all weather conditions. This is a walking course with caddies, and is Ranked 1 in South Africa. Host course of the 2003 Presidents Cup, 2005 Women's World Cup and 2006 South African Open
Walking only with caddies. Caddie fee included. (carts avail with medical note)
